CIOREVIEW >> High Performance Computing >> Ultipa

Ultipa has been recognized by CIOReview Magazine as the recipient of “Top 10 HPC Solutions Companies - 2022,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry. This profile has been developed by the CIOReview research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Ricky Sun, Founder and CEO.

Reimagining Data Processing with Graph Augmented Intelligence

Ultipa

Ricky Sun, Founder and CEO
Ultipa was founded in 2019 by Ricky Sun, a serial entrepreneur and an expert in high-performance computing, storage system, and big data technologies. He believed that graph databases, as the progressive evolution of traditional relational databases, would change the paradigm of data handling and processing, especially in HPC applications. “Relational databases are essentially two dimensional table-based databases that can’t deal with ever-increasing data,” says Sun who leads Ultipa as its CEO.

Recognizing that the narrow scope of graph database management solutions restricted companies from going full swing with practical and high-compute applications, Sun and his team at Ultipa built an agile, faster, safer, and greener high performance graph database and compute solution which can be purposed to build graph database-powered high-performance computing solutions for computational intensive application scenarios in various industries.

Combining the prowess of a high performance graph computing engine and a self-explanatory knowledge graph, Ultipa provides an intuitive graph database management and compute solution, Ultipa Graph that empowers enterprises with graph-augmented intelligence that solves their (usually enormous) data processing and analysis needs. Ultipa is currently materializing their value proposition in the financial and healthcare industries.

“Every financial institution needs to do data governance, data cleansing, data lineage and examinations which are the foundational work of building any business applications or solutions. It is more painful, if not impossible, when done with traditional databases. Our innovative graph-based solutions will let customers cultivate a healthy ground in an accelerated-fashion to grow their business,” says Sun. Ultipa has an elaborate onboarding process that considers everything, from the initial client interaction to test driving its graph database.

Since graph database systems are relatively new in the market, Ultipa helps customers kick start graph database and associated compute initiatives, and to gain a thorough understanding of the Ultipa system. The company’s technology can migrate data from both relational, NoSQL, and other graph database systems via purpose-built connectors.

Ultipa demonstrates the prowess of its graph database system through proof of-concept sessions, and by allowing clients to test-drive the solution, which ultimately convinces them to buy it.

The high-value scenarios that Ultipa provides can be best presented by a success story with China Merchants Bank (CMB), one of the largest commercial banks in the world. Prior to leveraging Ultipa Graph, CMB could only perform T+1 settlements (a framework where trade-related data is cleared within a day) which provided them with day-old data, hindering them from seeing results or quantified risks in real time. CMB required a solution to calculate in real-time risk indicators like liquidity coverage ratio. But carrying out this feat calls for the swift analysis of great amounts of transactional data. Ultipa provided CMB with a graph-powered, next-generation real time liquidity risk management system that runs on only four x86 complex instruction set computer (CISC) servers and processes data in real-time. The bank could carry out the data processing and analysis around savings, deposits, risk-weighted assets, net interests, incomes, bank funds, fund transfer pricing, and other indicators, with exponentially minimal compute power and time compared to traditional high-performance computing solutions.

Combining the prowess of a high-performance graph computing engine and a self-explanatory knowledge graph, Ultipa provides an intuitive graph database management and compute solution, Ultipa Graph

Nurturing successful client relationships, Ultipa continuously strives to upscale its offerings for customers. Ultipa Graph has already found its place in one of the world’s largest banks by offering graph-power HPC solutions or toolkit like liquidity risk management, asset liability management, and risk data governance system. Ultipa has numerous, high-value, scenario-based products under development while awaiting patents for its novel technologies.
